Abstract
The effect of extracts of plastics in medical use on DNA synthesis by human lymphocytes in culture was investigated. The addition of distilled water, saline and 5% ethanolsaline extracts of plasticizer free polyvinylchloride (PVC) and etylene-vinylacetate copolymer (EVA) into the culture had no effect on DNA synthesis. However, ethanol extracts of PVC and EVA inhibited DNA synthesis. Extracts of polyethylene (PE) and PE-EVA-PE laminated film with four kinds of eluant showed no inhibition. Human lymphocytes and mouse L cells showed a similar response to the extracts of plastics.
