Abstract
To study lymphocyte-material interactions is important for the development of the material used for immunomodulation. Therefore, the effect of synthetic polymers on murine lymphocyte were investigated in terms of IL-2 production, IL-2 receptor expression, and proliferation. The lymphocytes were cultured with con A in the presence of four different synthetic polymers, namely; cellulose acetate, polyvinyl alcohl, polyacrylonitril, and polyethylene. In the abesence of sera in culture media, no significant difference in these effects on the lymphocyte functions was observed among the polymers. However, when mouse serum was added, cellulose acetate showed higher IL-2 activity than others, suggesting that serum factor or factors are important for assessing the lymphocyte-material interactions.
