Abstract
The effect of autologous blood donation and preoperative administration of recombinant human erythropoietin, application of small priming volume type artificial lung and ultrafiltration in cardic surgery were evaluated in 25 consecutive patients.Sixteen patints recovered uneventfully with only. predonated autologous blood and 9 with homologous blood transfusion. Use of smallerpriming volume lung and hemoconcentrator during cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB) was effective to prevent over-hemodilution and to maintain higher hematocrit during and after CPB. Preoperative administration of erythropoietin was much effective to increase autologous blood donation (1200ml) without progression of anemia and resultant lesser postoperative bleeding and_preferable lactate_metabolism.
