ALTERATION IN COAGULATION AND FIBRINOLYSIS ASSOCIATED WITH CARDIOPULMONARY BYPASS

—The effect of hemofiltration during the extracorporeal circulation—

Abstract

We studied blood coagulation and fibrinolysis in 18 patients during surgery with cardiopul-monary bypass (CPB) and for 3 days after surgery. FPA was increased during CPB, and TAT levels were elevated significantly during CPB and dropped to normal range at 1 day after operation. Plasminogen was decreased and α₂PI-Pm complex was in-creased during CPB. FDP-E dimer increased significantly during CPB. These fingings indecate that despite the presense of heparin, the coagulation system is activated and fibrinolytic activity is increased during CPB.
