EVALUATION OF THREE SMALL SIZE ADULT TYPE HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE OXYGENATORS

Abstract

Gas exchange performance, heat exchange efficiency and pressure (trot) of new type small size membrane oxygenator ( UNIVOX: surface area 1.6 m², priming volume 220 ml, MElkA EXCELLING a HPO-15RHF :1.5m², 210 ml, MONOLYTH : 2.2 m², 290 ml) were evaluated, and were compared with CAPIOX-II 54. Oxygen transfer performance and CO₂ transfer performance of three oxygenator were excellent as like the CAPIOX-II 54. Three oxygenator have excellent heat exchange efficiency and low pressure drop. This study indicates that three new oxgenators are suitable for clinical application particularly for clear primed extracorporeal circulation. The control index of each oxygenator at 3 L/min of blood flow rate were 0.9-1.1 (UNIVOX), 1.0-1.4 (MERA EXCELUNG α HPO-15RHF), 0.9-1.2 (MONOLYTH), respectively.
