A new technology using powder metallurgical method is developed for recycling of scrap iron with significant copper impurity. Rapidly solidified Fe-Cu powder where, 0.5-15mass% copper is supersaturated, is prepared with the high-pressure water atomization. The powder is consolidated with severe plastic deformation at 873-1273K. Good consolidation of more than 98% of full density is achieved at all the temperatures and copper content tested. No coarse precipitation or cracking is observed with SEM observation. The results of tensile testing show the high strength of -1000MPa. Their tensile behavior is quite different with the rolling temperature.
