On the cover
Preserved rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds that had been stored as emergency food stock for about 100 years at the Furuhashi Kaikokan in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. By investigating such rice stock as a material, the genetic diversity of rice landraces in the Meiji era was evaluated. Clarifying changes in the genetic diversity of cultivated crops provides important insights in considering future conservation of genetic resources (Photo by Y.I. Sato, This issue, p. 347–354).
