On the cover

Carrots are among the top-ten most economically important vegetable crops in the world. However, the gene pool of cultivated carrots is narrow, and the collection and preservation of carrot germplasm are very limited in China. A number of mutant lines induced by EMS showing inheritable morphological mutations were obtained such as leaf shape (A: Wild type, B, C: Mutants), leaf color (D: Wild type, E–K: Mutants) and taproot color (L: Wild type, M–O: Mutants). These mutants can not only enrich the carrot germplasm, but also provide resources for the functional study of carrot genes (This issue, p. 540–546).
