Recently, moist-textured sweetpotatoes are preferred in the Japanese market (Photo image courtesy of Dr. Taguchi, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization). Moist sweetpotatoes are distinguished visually by their wet cut surfaces after steaming. By the application of a polyploid-adapted QTL-seq method to hexaploid sweetpotato, genomic regions associated with moist flesh have been identified. Consequently, DNA marker-assisted selection of moist-textured sweetpotatoes has become feasible prior to harvest (This issue, p. 103–113).
