INDUCTION OF HAPLOID TOBACCO BY MEANS OF X-IRRADIATED POLLEN GRAlNS.

Abstract

A method of inducing haploid tobacco by means of dusting the flowers of Nicotiana tabacum (n=24) with X-irradiated pollen grains of N.alata (n=9) was investigated. This method proved to be very efflcient because many haploid tobacco plants appeared in the bed on account of abortive hybrid seeds and partial lethal hybrid seedlings.
