Two different patterns were recognized in the changes of germination capacity of Hemerocallis pollen tested on agar plate during 24∼39 hours before and after blooming. H. fulva var. Iittorea and several varieties of H. dumortierii except var. exaltata showed high percentages of pollen germination even before the time of blooming, while the pollen of other species germinated well only after blooming. Pollens stored at 5°C for about a month could be successfully used for practical pollination.
