Abstract
Particle induced X-ray emission (PlXE) analysis has been used to detect the trace elements in the blood of 50 patieents with diabetes mellitus and 25 normal individuals. In all serum specimens the ratio of zinc to copper was analysed from the X-ray spectrum obtained by PIXE. A substantial difference of the mean value of the Zn/Cu ratio was found between samples from diabetes mellitus patients and healthy individuals. The results in this study indicated the mean value of the ratio of zinc to copper from diabetes mellitus serum showed low level in comparison with that of normal individuals. And the importance of the measurement copper and zinc elemets in the serum was discussed in the state of diabetes mellitus.
