It is important to affirm the properties and states of the above title not only for the purpose of designing, construction and maintenance of bridges, but also for setting the standard and the regulations of standard test to judge safety of substructure. I started the examination of railway bridges in 1951 and have tested over 1000 abutmentes and piers for settling-test and over 800 abutmentes and piers for vibration-test. There are very few who have tested using bridges, and it is hard to get any datum of this kind specially of new constructions.
The properties and states of movement show great difference according to the kind of superstructure, substructure, train load, foundation soil, scouring and the quality of material used in the substructures. Therefore, we can find out the generality and inter-relation of properties and states of the movement only through the test of many railway bridges as possible under different conditions of each through a certain and deffinite way of test. Regarding these points, I have analysed the collected data and got the conclusions as written in this report.
