Abstract
Design earthquake motions taking into account the fault rapture process of Osaka Bay fault movement were simulated by using a hybrid method combining the stochastic Green's function method and the 3-dimentional simulation method using finite difference scheme. Seismic stability and settlement as well as spreading of the runway part and seawall of reclaimed land were evaluated using two types of effective stress analysis scheme named LIQCA and FLIP. The input earthquake motions used for analyses were the observe earthquake motion at Port island during the 1995 Hyogoken Nambu earthquake (modified max. acc. 817gal) and simulated earthquake motion (max. acc. 459gal). As a result, the settlement of seawall was safe side of the allowable design level to prevent inundation of sea water. The maximum settlement of runway, however, was over the allowable value, the soil improvement using the sand compaction pile method was designed and put into practice.
