Abstract
This paper describes an examination concerning smoke behavior in a small road tunnel by means of fire experiment in a 1/3 scale model tunnel. The model tunnel geometry and experimental conditions were set to consider Froude Number and Reynolds Number which are similarities of fire phenomenon. The material of the model tunnel wall was also chosen in consideration of similarity. According to the similarity law of the Froude Number, we converted the obtained experimental results into full-scall, and then examined the evacuation environment of the small road tunnel. As a result, we clarified that smoke descent phenomenon caused by endothermic of tunnel wall took place in short length and short time compared with ordinary tunnels, and small road tunnel was easily filled with smoke. However, smoke propagation velocity of longitudinal direction became approximately half in comparison with ordinary tunnel.
