Abstract
The Megami Bridge is one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in Japan with a center span length of 480m and tower of 170m in height. The balancing girder erection method using inclined and vertical bents and tuned mass damper (TMD) are adopted in order to prevent the occurrence of topographic features. Typhoon No.0306 went ashore in Nagasaki Prefecture on June 19 in 2003.
As the results of analyzing the behavior of tower of the Megami Bridge by this typhoon, the effect of TMD was evaluated. The logarithmic decrement of response of the tower was 0.133 and the responses were decreasing from 1/1.6 to 1/1.9 and the effectiveness of TMD was checked in this paper.
