INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF MAINTENANCE IN THE METROPOLITAN EXPRESSWAY NETWORK

Abstract

  Schematic and effective execution of maintenance becomes an issue of great concern for highway administrators to accommodate a risk of rapidly increasing and aging of highway structures. As arteries of metropolitan Tokyo, further efficiency of maintenance is required for the Metropolitan Expressway, part of which has been used for more than 40 years and over 1.15 million of vehicles are running in a day. In this paper, structural deficiency condition is qualitatively evaluated by using last 5 years inspection records of pavements, paintings and bridge structures in the metropolitan expressway network and individual management system is constructed to judge priority of each maintenance action. And the integrated management is proposed in order to evaluate the achievement of maintenance management goal, to plan repairing actions in the next fiscal year and design the intermediate maintenance plan based on deterioration curve forecast.
