Abstract
This study clarifies car-parking situations in Bangkok's central business districts, compulsory car-parking building-up regulations and standards, and their alteration, which were not clear although car-parkings are important fundamental infrastructure to support car dependent society. Then, the situation of car-parrking development and related regulations of Bangkok were compared with those of several other contries including Japan. As the result, it was clarified that compulsory car-parking building system was introduced in 1974 in Thailand, and it requires larger amount of car-parking than that of Japan and almost equal to USA or European contries.
Several urban railway construction projects are progressing steadily in Bangkok to promote public transportation use. Considering these situations, desirable car-parking development measures, especially from the stand points of promoting public transportation use, were studied.
