Abstract

There are many sharp curves in subway tunnels which often result in trains generating noise when passing through. However, the effects of noise in subways receive less attention than on railways that run aboveground. On the other hand, various inspections are conducted to ensure train safety, but sound data is not collected by regular noise measurement. This study identified that generation of noise such as “squeak noise” or “rail corrugation-related noise” is not caused only by curves and train speed, but is a phenomenon caused by multiple factors. It was also shown that the combination of influencing factors was different for each sound. Furthermore, it was found that improving the accuracy of accumulated sound data is important for future applications.
