In recent years, Japan has seen a series of new business hotel chains opening in various parts of the country due to the expansion of accommodation demand, including inbound tourism. This trend is expected to increase employment opportunities, tax revenue, and the number of guests in the region, but it also deprives local hotels of demand. The impact is not limited to a change in the supplier, but may also be detrimental to the local economy due to a change in the destination. Therefore, in this study, we conducted an economic ripple effect analysis of four hotels in Kumamoto City in order to clarify the differences in the impact of different types of management on the local economy. The results showed that the direct economic effect on the city was 22.2 to28.3 million yen smaller and the economic ripple effect on the city was 6.6 to 9.4 million yen smaller for the nationwide chain hotels than for the local hotels, assuming sales of 100 million yen.
