Abstract

In this study, with the aim of clarifying the relationship between the convenience of public transportation and social population change by age groups, we focused on urban planning areas in local areas nationwide. We analyzed the relationship between the presence or absence of stations and bus stops, the frequency of trains and buses in operation in 2010, and the rate of social population change rate by age groups over the five-year period from 2010 to 2015 in units of 500m mesh. As a result, we clarified that the 0-4 to 5-9 age group tends to increase in society as a whole in local areas, but in urbanized areas, the social increase is relatively small in meshes where trains are frequently operated. In addition, we clarified that the 10-14 to 15-19 and 15-19 to 20-24 age groups tend to decrease in society as a whole in local areas, and the social decline is greater in meshes where there are fewer trains and buses in operation. Furthermore, we clarified that the 20-24 to 25-29 age group tends to increase in society in local areas, but in urbanized areas, the bus stop meshes with more bus service has less social increase.
