Abstract

As the demand for bicycles increases, it is an urgent issue to establish a method for evaluating and maintaining road surfaces for riding comfort. In this study, we calculated BRI, which is a road surface evaluation index from the viewpoint of a bicycle, and visualized it on a map together with road surface properties, using actual road profiles obtained by MPM and image data from an action camera. As a result, it is possible to visualize the road surface evaluation from the viewpoint of a bicycle. In addition, the difference between the IRI and BRI calculated from the actual road profile was examined, and the consistency between the wavelength component of the profile and the IRI and BRI calculation results was confirmed. These results indicate that a road surface maintenance method that takes into account the evaluation characteristics of BRI in addition to the conventional IRI is necessary for the maintenance and management of roadways that are comfortable for both automobiles and bicycles.
