Abstract

This study analyzed contributing variables affecting driver’s injury severity level, distinguished by the degree of negligence, in the crash of 4-wheeled vehicles at intersections in Aichi prefecture. To investigate the heterogeneity of thresholds, a hierarchical ordered probit model was constructed using the crash data from 2016 to 2020 combined with other data, such as the regional characteristics data and road-specific data. The estimation results showed that ages of the other party, vehicle size differences, collision directions, dim night conditions and land use significantly affected the injury severity level. In addition, the significant variables at the thresholds revealed the factors that partially influence the injury severity level, such as the age of the party, weather and time of day.
