Abstract
Extensive efforts have been made to remediate environment in enclosed bays since 1970s. Nevertheless, water quality standards have not fully achieved, anoxic water and associated mass mortality of fish and benthos have occur several times a year, and decrease of fish catch is ongoing matter. Targets of environmental remediation have been changed time to time. Water quality control, fishing reef and landscape had been major issues in the ocean engineering research since 1970. Issues have been increased diversity on sediment quality, load management, habitat creation.
To clarify updated targets and a strategic planning of studies, a special session on "enclosed bay's environmental remediation techniques" has been organized since the 35th Ocean Engineering Symposium. This paper is a review of the session activities.
