Abstract
The tsunami induced by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku earthquake took the lives of many residents living at the Tohoku coast facing the Pacific ocean. Therefore, in future, it has been recommended that the residents living along coasts of Japan should evacuate against tsunami.
In this study, an investigation using a survey by questionnaire was conducted to clarify the functions of temples for evacuation sites and the role of risk reduction of temples in communities is proposed in case of a great earthquake estimated in Nankai region focusing on experiences in coastal zones of Tohoku region.
