Abstract
On the tidal flat near the mouths of the Nagao and Imakawa Rivers flowing into the Suo-nada Sea, a number of longitudinal sand bars were formed, and such longitudinal sand bars merged to a large-scale isolated longshore sand bar. With the elongation of longshore sand bar, a wave-shelter zone was formed behind it, resulting in shoreline changes on land. The shoreline changes of these sand bars were investigated using satellite images together with the site observation on December 27, 2009. A schematic diagram to explain the mechanism of cross-shore movement of a sand body on the tidal flat was proposed.
