Abstract

The tsunami load is not only associated with hydrodynamic force but also collision force of drifting objects on the tsunami, such as debris and containers. Although the impact force of the tsunami drifting object on the structure has been numerically simulated so far, the numerical simulation of the trajectory of drifting objects has not been so much evaluated. In this study, the behavior of drifting containers on the apron was simulated by using DualSPHysics on the experimental scale, and it was compared with the previous hydraulic experiments. As a result, the wave height and flow velocity measured on the previous experiment could be well reproduced by using the numerical simulations. In addition, regarding container trajectories, the drifting forward distance of the containers was significantly underestimated compared with the previous experiment. On the other hand, the diffusion angle of containers was well reproduced in the numerical simulations. As a summary, it was confirmed that the container drift orbit analysis was enabled by using DualSPHysics with the limitations on the forward distance of containers.
