Concrete pavement is more resistant to rutting and cracking than asphalt pavement, and it is expected to have a longer service life. However, it is known that damage will occur early in cold regions if frost heave countermeasures are not taken reliably. In this study, the applicability of a heat insulation method using XPS (extruded polystyrene foam insulation) was examined by test construction as a countermeasure against frost heaving when replacing existing asphalt pavement with concrete pavement. The pavement structure necessary for protecting the insulation and ensuring the quality of the roadbed was examined, the proof stress of the insulation was verified, and the insulation effect was analyzed by heat conduction analysis. Based on this result, the pavement cross section was determined and test construction was carried out. As a result, appropriate bearing capacity and expected heat insulation effect were obtained.
