Abstract
Deaths resulting from falling accidents account for 40% of all labor-related deaths in the construction industry and outnumber deaths from any other cause at construction work sites. Measures to reduce accidental falls from working surfaces other than scaffolding are of the highest priority. This paper details a survey (questionnaire) of companies to ascertain the equipment they actually use to prevent falls from construction work sites on slopes. We collected basic data and engineering findings useful for preventing falling accidents through construction safety management on “cliffs and slopes, ” the major working surfaces, apart from scaffolding, from which falling accidents occur. We also identified issues to consider in the future based on the results of the survey and past accident analyses.
