The value of the broadcast archives consisting of a huge number of past news and other programs stored at broadcast stations are attracting attention as a video asset. But it is not still very clear how it can be better used for social returns. In this paper, I report the contents, use scenes, and the content-building process of the “NHK Reminiscence Therapy Library” as a successful example, as well as the issues that will be required for future use of the broadcast archive. The finding in this study is that the successful use of archives cannot be accomplished by the owner (NHK) alone, but with the help the perspective of outside experts as well.
