ColBase, a database of museum collections operated by the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage, provides data in cooperation with a digital archive portal, "Japan Search". In this article, we will introduce the background and overview of the development of ColBase, touching on the handling of the license and the linkage with each museum's own database. We will explain collaborations through ColBase with various institutions, and then more in detail that with Japan Search. We review the problems that arose from the recent renewal of ColBase, and discuss the challenges and expectations for the future.
