This paper examines the performance comparison of Coptic machine translation systems and their role in language revitalization. First, the study evaluates the performance of representative machine translation systems, namely Coptic Translator, Claude 3 Opus, and GPT-4o, revealing that Claude 3 Opus and Coptic Translator achieve high translation quality. Next, the history of Coptic language revitalization is reviewed, highlighting the importance of individual passion and the support of academic and religious communities in sustaining the movement. The paper then discusses the potential of machine translation to contribute to the expansion of Coptic language learning resources, digital archiving, and information dissemination through platforms such as Wikipedia. However, it is crucial to consider the ethical implications of the negative aspects of technology and to recognize that machine translation cannot replace human endeavors. The paper concludes that for the true revitalization of Coptic, it is essential for speakers themselves to embody the value and potential of the language, and machine translation should be regarded as a supplementary tool to support this goal.
