Abstract

Library archives for disaster-related materials to the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake are mainly in analog media and are managed by OPAC, which poses a challenge for their searchability and utilization. The authors therefore developed a digital archiving system based on a material circulation model. The system is to record users' learning outcomes as well as to implement a disaster education program using the materials. This study evaluates the usefulness of the system. Through the practice of learning about the earthquake disaster using the developed system, newly created digital materials and metadata were archived in the system. As a result, the system encouraged the use of materials, and the registered metadata contributed to enhanced searchability. Therefore, the certain usefulness of the system was confirmed.
