This paper serves as an overview of the special feature “Broadcasting 100 Years and Broadcasting Archives,” presenting the main points discussed at the “Broadcasting Archives Study Group,” an independent study group (SIG) of Japan Society for Digital Archive, along with summaries of the five essays included in this special feature. The study group has been discussing various issues related to broadcasting archives, including (1) legal and institutional challenges, (2) research on advanced overseas cases, and (3) efforts and plans for utilization. While this special feature focuses primarily on (3) utilization, each initiative has its limitations, highlighting the need for a social system. The paper also touches on the potential for promoting the utilization of broadcasting archives to enhance the value of broadcasting.
