Damages of Rockfill Dam Body of Isawa Dam during The Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake in 2008 and Its Repair Works

Abstract

The Isawa Dam is an earth center core type rockfill dam and the dam body has been under construction. At 8:43 a.m. on June 14 of 2008, an earthquake which epicenter was located in the southern part of Iwate prefecture and 10 km away from the Isawa dam was occurred. The earthquake caused damages on the Isawa Dam: displacements of dam body, cracks at the surface of dam, and so on. This paper reports an overview of the occurred damages and the findings which were got during a survey of damages and an implementation of repair works.
