Investigation and Repair Works of Kouchi-Dam caused by The Niigataken Chuetsu-oki Earthquake(2007) in Kashiwazaki-City Centoral Japan

Abstract

The Kouchi-Dam constructed for water service in 1938 is a 23.98m-high earth dam. On July 16 of 2007, The Niigataken Chuetu-oki Earthquake with magnitude of 6.8 whose hypocenter was about 50km away from the Kouchi-Dam occured, and the seismic intensity was 6 upper in Kashiwazaki City. The earthquake caused damages on Kouchi-Dam, several longitudinal cracks in the dam levee crown, cracks in the protection concrete on the upstream side, displacements of the dam body, and so on. This report is the outline of the investigation and the repair works.
