Abstract

Recent climate change has resulted in more frequent and intense rainfall events, increasing the need for dam rehabilitation projects. Many of these projects are carried out while existing dams remain in operation, which involves the risk of flooding and therefore requires highly reliable risk management. However, conventional flow prediction methods such as hydraulic model experiments face limitations: accurately reproducing complex site topography is challenging, and model fabrication demands considerable time and cost. To address these issues, this study attempts to construct a digital twin model by integrating a high precision BIM/CIM model—capable of faithfully representing actual site conditions—with three dimensional fluid analysis. This approach enables precise reproduction of dam discharge behavior and allows for detailed flow assessments and risk management measures that are difficult to evaluate using traditional hydraulic model experiments.
