In order to study dynamic stability of such granular structures as rock fill dams, rockmounds in the water and so on, a new experimental technique to visualize dynamic behaviorof particles interlocking in a model was developed. In the proposed method, a model ismade of glass particles and is put in the liquid with the same refractive index. Since theglass surface of fracture is chemically active, optical property of he surface differesslightly from what it used to be before fracture. Thus, by letting a laser-light-sheetpass through the model, it becomes possible to observe contour of each particle on thislight-sheet outlined by the diffused light. And, scanning of the laser-light-sheet enablesus to analyse the whole motion of the model.
