Abstract
In Japan, there are many cases that dams are constructed on stratified rocks which are subjected to raise geotechnical problems on foundation and slopes. As for the problem of dam foundation, bedding planes or schistosity planes inclining to upstream or downstream in low angle, may act as discontinuous weak planes due to the dam loading. As for the problem of slopes, they sometimes become a sliding plane due to the excavation or the impounding. The Authors confronted these problems and studied to give a solution to their countermeasures in case of a dam under construction on such a stratified foundation.
