Lambert-Beer law is a combination of Lambert′s law and Beer′s law. Lambert′s law states that absorbance is proportional to the optical path length through a solution, and Beer′s law states that absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the solution. This law is also related to the principle of pulse oximeters, which measure the saturation fraction of the oxygen in blood, and is therefore an important law in the education of physics, chemistry, and biology in the medical field. In this paper, I report on a simple experimental method of measuring absorbance using a laser pointer and a digital illuminometer to teach the concept of Lambert-Beer law.
