In this study, we examined whether incorporating active learning into lectures on “dessin,” which involves drawing observed objects, and “image sketching,” which entails organizing and expressing internally conceived images, would lead to changes and growth in students’ skills. Furthermore, we aimed to determine which skills were effectively addressed by this approach. To conduct a quantitative analysis and discussion, we categorized skills into five items and employed a rubric-based grading system. In the case of dessin, no significant differences were observed in any of the items; however, better results were obtained for “perspective drawing” compared to other items. In image sketching, the “detailed shape” item showed a significant improvement in evaluation. The introduction of active learning suggested the potential for skill improvement in both dessin and image sketching.
