In this study, we developed a scale to measure the level of work motivation in administrative staff of universities in order to examine its relationship to mental health in the workplace.  As a result, we found the following six factors to be useful measures to determine the administrative staff’s level of work motivation: self-expression, being valued by others, doing rewarding work, sense of satisfaction with the profession, sense of belonging, and relationship with coworkers.  In regard to the relation between the work motivation scale and workplace mental health, the results indicated that when the sense of achievement and doing rewarding work scores were high, and when tiredness and feeling spent as well as avoidance of social relations scores were low, the work motivation of the administrative staff improved.
