Abstract
In this study, we analyzed the free-text descriptions regarding pre- and post-meal self-measurements of blood glucose and lifestyle habits by 82 nursing college students. The subjects were divided into the postprandial hyperglycemia group and non-hyperglycemia group based on blood glucose levels, and KH Coder was used to assess the co-occurrence of words.
The results showed that the characteristic words for the postprandial hyperglycemia group (n=30) included “confectionary,” “convenience stores,” “living alone”, and “order.” Moreover, tendencies for frequent consumption of confectionary and convenience store foods, a reluctance to engage in cooking, indifference regarding meal sequence, and emotional eating were noted. These appeared to be unconscious eating behaviors that were influenced by fatigue and stress, suggesting the need for educational intervention.
