Steam generation is an important technology in which solar energy can be effectively utilized. In this study, we investigated particle layer wicks to reduce the heat loss and to enhance steam generation via thin film evaporation. We examined single-layer, double-layer, and convex structure wicks with different particle sizes on a copper plate. The Heywood diameter, porosity, and liquid transport performance were evaluated for each particle layer wick. In addition, thermal resistance and steam production rate were determined by heat transfer experiments. A wick with a convex structure showed low thermal resistance and promoted thin film evaporation to improve evaporation performance.
