Abstract

The foam devices of hercynite were fabricated through the replica method. The foam devices were used for thermochemical CO2 decomposition with a concentrated sun simulator apparatus. Reduction and oxidation of hercynite were performed at isothermal temperatures of approximately 1350 °C. The hercynite was reduced in a condition of Ar atmosphere, and the reactive material released O2. After this process, CO2 was provided to the device of hercynite, and the material was oxidized to generate CO. The experimental results were compared with those obtained using porous ceria. The hercynite was confirmed to produce twice as much gas as the ceria. It was demonstrated that the porous hercynite was useful as a reactive material for CO2 decomposition.
