This study demonstrate the effectiveness of the hiroen as a thermal buffer space of a wooden building renovated from traditional timber house in satoyama. The effectiveness of hiroen as a thermal buffer space was confirmed by the thermal environment during cooling and heating. In addition, the temperature of under floor air supplied to hiroen is affected the concrete foundation thermal storage.
