Abstract
In this paper, error analysis in the paper-and-pencil Mental Rotations Test (MRT) was conducted. In the previous study, direct monitor of eye fixation and protocol analysis have shown the difference of problem solving process between experts and novices. The purpose of this study is to examine whether such differences of problem solving process are reflected in the statistic property of the errors made by a large number of subjects.
Following results were obtained: 1) Solving process by mental rotation was reflected in error made by both experts and novices. 2) Solving process by detecting structural features was reflected in error made by novices.
The error analysis also revealed the unequal difficulty of each two part in the MRT. From the viewpoint of item order, the reconstruction of the MRT will be an interesting topic in the future work.
