The author studied the amplitudes of chest and abdominal respiratory movements in supine, sitting and standing positions at rest.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The amplitude of abdominal movements was 2-5 times greater than that of chest movements. This fact was indifferent of sex and age.
2. Chest movements became, in general, greater, when the subjects changed their posture from supine to sitting and standing.
