This publication describes a cultural project put on by a publishers organization in certain provinces in the Taisho Era.
In March of 1926, the Osaka Publishers Union held a cultural publication exhibition, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the union, and to make citizens aware of both the social and cultural roles of publishing industry. The publishers in Osaka devoted all their energies to the project, establishing a valuable madia event precedent in Japanese publication history. It appears to be the first example of the publisher playing the role of a social-educator, rather than only pursuing profit.
This many be the only research report on this subject: an outline based on the publishers' bulletin “Tosho Jiho” (July, 1926 edition), which records the history of the exhibition.
