We have examined effect of superoxide dismutase on prostaglandin E2 levels in rat gastric mucosa. After injection of superoxide dismutase, gastric mucosal prostaglandin E2 levels tend to increase. On the other hand, dimethyldithiocarbamate, an inhibiter of superoxide dismutase lowered prostaglandin E2 levels. These results suggest that superoxide dismutase may regulate prostaglandin synthesis in rat gastric mucosa.
